Abstract

Uterine rupture is a potentially avoidable obstetric catastrophe which often results in poor fetal outcome and increased maternal morbidity and mortality. In this report we discuss a case of an unusual presentation of posterior uterine rupture in a 32year old primigravida following Injudicious use of oxytocics, she was delivered of a live infant @ term and was noticed to have developed Post partum hemorrhage. The standard hospital protocol for PPH was commerced but bleeding presisted and she was opted for an emergency exploratory laparotomy and an extensive posterior uterine tear measuring 12cm in longest diameter, a repair was done and she was discharged home on a PCV of 37% 8days following the surgery.
