    Interesting study with evidence of functional rod-dominant vision on the basis of phototransduction genes present (and comparable optic tectum). I see in figures 1 and 2 there is an intact RPE and wonder if you have higher resolution of the morphology there? Also, I guess I would expect for there to be less disc shedding and RPE phagocytosis if there is a lower demand for chromophore regeneration. Curious about molecular evolution of retinal cycle and phagocytosis genes in the RPE that might show evidence of adaptation in a circumstance without light-dependent circadian cycling but retained functional phototransduction.
