Abstract

This study reviewed the Llingo Chinese language application to evaluate its usability, instructional design, and potential for supporting Mandarin vocabulary acquisition. A single-participant approach was employed to allow detailed observation of the application’s features, lesson structure, and user experience. The participant engaged with the program over five days, completing twenty-five lessons that combined images, audio, and text. Findings indicate that Llingo offers an engaging visual-auditory learning experience conducive to basic word and phrase recognition. However, the absence of clear grammatical explanations, limited guidance on lesson progression, and reliance on rote memorisation were identified as constraints. While suitable as a supplementary tool for beginners, further refinements are needed to enhance clarity, interactivity, and scalability for learners seeking deeper language comprehension and conversational competence.
