Abstract

Social Perspective Taking (SPT) is essential for fostering understanding across diverse groups. This studyexamined the impact of a brief intervention on SPT and cultural competence among 119 monolingual andmonocultural participants. While the intervention aimed to immerse participants in diverse linguistic practicesand cultural nuances, primary outcomes showed no significant enhancement in SPT performance, emotionrecognition, or cultural competence between intervention and control groups. However, exploratory resultsrevealed a potential effect on the state emotion of curiosity and a general improvement in SPT performanceacross both groups when compared to a no-intervention group. These findings suggest that the exposureto cultural perspectives might bolster SPT, emphasizing the intertwined nature of culture and SPT. In ourmulticultural world, such insights highlight the potential of straightforward interventions to enhanceunderstanding, setting a foundation for future research and practical applications.
