Abstract

This study describes the development and preliminary validation of a brief, standardised Cognitive Assessment Battery for use in applied vocational and forensic contexts. The battery integrates two sub-tests targeting key cognitive constructs relevant to everyday functioning: (1) information processing speed, measured by the Basic Information Parameter, and (2) cognitive complexity, assessed via the Wilson Rapid Approximate Intelligence Test. Sub-test scores were converted to scale scores and combined into a composite full-scale cognitive capacity (M=100, SD=15). The battery was administered to 133 adults undergoing forensic vocational evaluations. Results showed coherent internal relationships and significant correlations between full-scale cognitive capacity and variables such as reading ability, general knowledge and malingering indices. The findings support the battery’s practical utility as a time-efficient, cost-effective alternative to longer commercial assessments. Limitations include the non-representative sample and reliance on a convenience design, suggesting the need for further validation.
