Abstract

The pulvinar nucleus of the thalamus is a crucial component of the visual system, distinguished by its extensive connections with various cortical regions that facilitate bidirectional communication and the integration of sensory information throughout the visual hierarchy. Recent studies underscore the pulvinar's significant roles in visual and attentional modulation and coordinating activity across cortical areas. This review explores recent advancements that shed light on the pulvinar's circuitry and functions, highlighting its potential contributions to stable object perception through the grouping cell hypothesis.
