Abstract

Mind, Brain, and Education (MBE) offers tremendous potential for improving student outcomes and academic achievement. However, MBE translation, where promising principles from MBE research are translated into everyday practices in classrooms and schools, has historically been challenging. The work of the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning (CTTL) offers a unique solution as they are an MBE research-to-practice group embedded in a preschool-through-12th grade school, run by people who are still classroom teachers. This paper shares data from their MBE translation work with more than 9,000 educators. It suggests that: (1) a correlation exists between knowledge of MBE, collective teacher efficacy, and increased use of high quality evidence-based teaching practices. (2) Training in MBE translation increases collective teacher efficacy, use of high quality teaching practices, and accurate knowledge of neuromyths. In addition, (3) classroom examples of impactful MBE-informed strategies, and (4) guidelines for effective MBE translation are presented.
