Abstract

This research used a 124-year historical record of monthly rainfall col-lected on the Santa Eliza farm at the Instituto Agronômico de Campinasin southeastern Brazil. The methodology employed was to conduct a chi-square test in 30- and 10-year increments and compare the four and twelveperiods that comprised the total of the analyzed series from 1890 to 2014.As a result of the chi-square test, there is no statistical evidence that itsvariability exhibited trends, allowing one to conclude that the frequencyvariability of maximum rainfall exhibits random variability, falling withinthe range of natural variability.
