This chapter covers three main parts related to sustainable indoor built environment (IBE) for office occupants, which are (1) comfort categories of IBE, (2) AI/ML-powered technologies in smart buildings, and (3) research and development (R&D) milestones with respect to different IBE aspects within smart buildings. With the comfort categories and state-of-the-art AI/ML-powered technologies, smart buildings design to satisfy both IBE comfort criteria and achieve energy-efficiency in a smart and timely way. To make this chapter as useful as a quick and handy reference guide, a quick summary and a reference guide of IBE aligning with international standards conclude this chapter.
