ChatGPT in recent months has become a popular and really exciting piece of technology. In response to the user’s input questions, it can instantly generate fluent, human-sounding responses. But how accurate is the information in those responses? This scientific inquiry is aimed to address this question by interacting repeatedly with ChatGPT. Our investigation shows that ChatGPT has the potential to revolutionise the way we interact with computers and access information. However, the current version of ChatGPT is not reliable and can sometimes fail to answer simple questions a Year 3 student can answer. This investigation used questions from the Australian citizenship Test, NAPLAN Year 3 Numeracy Tests and other areas to assess the reliability of ChatGPT. From the results obtained from this investigation, we can conclude that ChatGPT can be a ‘harmful’ tool especially for primary school students who may take the responses as correct. These students may not have the skills or the desire to validate the responses generated fromChatGPT from alternative sources.
