Abstract

The fruit anatomy of all species of the genus Prangos in Iran for the first time has been studied comparatively based on mericarp shape in transverse sections. The species were divided into four groups based on the mericarp structure, vallecular vittae, vascular bundle and rib oil duct. The results showed that the fruit of Prangos species is usually with mesocarp 4-5 parts. Anatomical studies also confirmed the morphological and anatomical differences between sections of Alococarpum, Latilobae and Ulopterae, and other members of the genus. As a result of this study, we are able to identify and classify the species of this genus using anatomical features (similarities and differences between between the species) of the fruit.
