Abstract

The renovation practices of traditional Javanese Joglo houses in the Juwana district of Pati, Central Java, are explored, focusing on how these culturally significant structures adaptation to modern living requirements. The research identifies the most common spatial modifications, such as the addition of kitchens, bathrooms, prayer rooms, and commercial spaces, and analyzes the socio-cultural, functional, and economic factors driving these changes. Methods employed include direct observation, floor plan sketching, homeowner interviews, drone aerial mapping, and a comprehensive literature review. Insights are provided into how these traditional homes maintain their cultural essence while incorporating modern amenities. The findings underscore the importance of flexibility in the spatial configuration of Joglo houses and offer recommendations for designing new Joglo homes that balance traditional values with contemporary needs. Emphasis is placed on creating adaptable and multifunctional spaces to ensure the continued relevance and preservation of Joglo architecture.
