Abstract

Purpose To investigate the perspectives and behaviors of endometrial cancer patients with regards to nutrition, physical activity and overall weight management. Methods A cross-sectional survey was employed to obtain data. This survey included two separate validated questionnaires to assess diet and exercise. Results Preliminary findings show that endometrial cancer patients recognized the benefits of weight loss and physical activity, but struggled with fatigue, lack of support and perceived limited guidance from healthcare providers. This resulted in a gap between knowledge of health lifestyle practices and follow-through. Conclusion Understanding the knowledge that endometrial cancer patients have regarding weight and healthy lifestyle is vital for improving outcomes. This study shows a disconnect between knowledge and outcomes for this patient population. Implications for Cancer Survivors Customized strategies to help combat these barriers are needed to improve adherence to healthy lifestyle habits and ultimately improve long-term outcomes for cancer survivors.
