Abstract

Groundwater is one of the most important sources of drinking water in Raya Kobo Woreda; hence, important to determine the physico-chemical parameters and concentration of selected metals of this water source. The Water samples collected from four different places in the eight water points, where there is a hand pump supply system. The collected samples analyzed for physico-chemical parameters: temperature, Electrical conductivity, Turbidity and others. Nitrate and phosphate determined by UV-Vis spectrometer at 410 nm. Sodium, Potassium and calcium ions were determined using flame photometry. In addition, the level of heavy metals in the sample determined by AAS. The concentrations of most physicochemical parameters of water samples of Raya Kobo Woreda were within the permissible limit of World Health Organization and Ethiopian Standard Agency guideline for drinking water. Of the selected heavy metals, Fe, Cu, Cd, and Pb, only iron concentration was above the permissible limit of WHO and ESA for drinking water.
