Abstract

A series of ammonium salts of phenyl/(4-chlorophenyl) azosalicylic acid was synthesized. UV-Vis spectroscopy revealed characteristic absorption bands for all compounds at 260 nm and 365 nm. The synthesized derivatives were evaluated for in vitro biological activity against the Gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus , the Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and the yeast-like fungus Candida utilis . Additionally, their anticancer potential was assessed using human cervical adenocarcinoma (HeLa) cells and murine colon carcinoma (CT26) cell lines.
