A series of Sm 3+ -doped Ba 2 La 6 Y 2 (SiO 4 ) 6 O 2 phosphors were synthesized via a high-temperature solid-state reaction. The obtained compounds crystallized in an apatite-type structure. Upon 403 nm excitation, the samples exhibited intense orange-red emission. Concentration quenching was determined to result from exchange interactions between Sm 3+ ions. The phosphors demonstrated high color purity and abnormal thermal quenching behavior within 398–473 K temperature range. Furthermore, the temperature-dependent fluorescence intensity ratio suggests potential application in optical thermometry. These results indicate that BLYSO: Sm 3+ is a functionally versatile material with potential for application in solid-state lighting and optical temperature sensing.
