Utilization of Family Planning Services and Influence Factors among Married Women in Baghdad City

Objective The research investigates the utilization of family planning services and the determining elements affecting married women in Baghdad City. Meth o ds A one-time investigation took place during (1st October 2024 to 1st February 2025). A purposive sample of 881 women of childbearing age is selected from Health Center Al-Kadhimiya First, Health Center Al-Zahraa, and Martyr Abdul Sahib Dakhil Health Center in Kadhimiya in Baghdad City. Data was collected through interviews of women using a questionnaire format designed and contained (3) part demographic variables, Reproductive variables, and variables related to family planning. Results The results indicated that the age group (16–23) comprised the plurality of the sample (42.5%). The study also discovered that the following factors influence the utilization of family planning services: the effectiveness of family planning methods, the accessibility of family planning services, the availability of facilities/equipment, and the visit to the health center after delivery (70.3%, 83.0%, 85.5%, 89.1%, respectively). Additionally, the husband's acceptance of the family planning method is responsible for approximately (80.0%) of the sample's utilization of family planning services. Other risk factors were occupation (P = 0.28) and no. of desired children, as well as planned birth (P = 0.165), which were insignificant. Conclusions The factors that significantly influence the use of family planning include age, educational level, preferred birth spacing of more than or equal to 2 years, postpartum visits to the health center, the effectiveness of family planning methods, the accessibility of family planning services, the availability of facilities and equipment, and knowledge of family planning methods.
