Abstract

This study explores the coping strategies of wives of alcoholics residing in the Melachinthamani region of Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Alcoholism continues to pose not only a public health problem but also a social challenge, particularly affecting women from socio-economically disadvantaged and illiterate backgrounds. Using both quantitative and qualitative approaches, the research identifies emotional, social, spiritual, and economic strategies employed by these women. The study also reveals how occupational and social variations influence coping mechanisms. Findings highlight the urgent need for community-based interventions, counselling, and supportive networks to enhance resilience among women.
