Abstract

This paper presents a metamaterial-loaded patch antenna for fifth-generation (5G) application. The proposed inset-fed patch antenna designed using FR4 substrate, incorporates defected ground plane to improve impedance matching. To further enhance performance, a 5×5 array of metamaterial unit cells is positioned in front of the patch antenna at a distance of approximately 0.264λ. This strategic placement helps improve the antenna’s overall frequency response and gain. This study explores how different parameters influence the antenna’s behavior in the frequency domain. The results demonstrate improvements in bandwidth, S-parameters, gain versus frequency response, and radiation pattern for the designed antenna.
