Abstract

Objectives Bio-Secure-Environment (BSE)/ Bio-bubble was introduced to prevent the spread of COVID-19, particularly during sporting events. The International Cricket Council(ICC) implemented the BSE to minimize the risk of disease transmission during cricket tournaments. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of COVID-19 preventive measures, and the outcomes of maintenance the BSE in cricket tournaments held in Sri Lanka, 2021. Methods We evaluated International and National cricket tournaments held under the ICC-recommended BSE from July,2021-December,2021. Data were collected through weekly BSE monitoring questionnaire (via Google Forms), updated by a COVID-19 compliance medical officer at each event. Results Total of 1,230 participants in 15 events: 6 tournaments were included. The BSE was established and maintained in 15 locations across Sri Lanka. The BSE encompassed all Sri Lankan teams, visiting cricket team members, support staff, security, and match venue ground staff.
