Abstract

Background: Nigeria faces a dual burden of HIV and Hepatitis B, posing significant challenges to public health. Mother-to-child transmission is a major route of HBV and HIV infection. Prevention strategies include ARV prophylaxis for HIV-positive mothers and Hepatitis B immunization. Objective: This study aimed to assess the relationship between Hepatitis B immunization rates and ARV coverage for PMTCT in Nigeria from 2010 to 2023. Methods: A retrospective trend analysis was conducted using national-level data. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, linear regression, line plots, and scatter plots were employed to analyze the trends and relationship between the two variables. Results: The results showed no significant correlation between Hepatitis B immunization rates and ARV coverage (r = -0.26, p = 0.36). Both variables exhibited independent trends over the study period. Conclusion: The findings suggest that program silos and funding separations may contribute to the lack of association. Integrated program design and data systems are needed to enhance maternal-child health outcomes.
