Abstract

This article presents a case of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma complicated by triple esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, detailing a comprehensive treatment approach. The patient initially sought medical attention due to severe dysphagia. Following confirmation of the diagnosis via gastroscopic biopsy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy were administered to alleviate the obstruction in the middle and lower esophagus. This treatment led to a notable improvement in dysphagia and provided effective local tumour control. Concurrent chemoradiotherapy was subsequently administered for hypopharyngeal and cervical esophageal squamous cell carcinomas. At 19 months post-treatment, the patient remained free from functional impairment or signs of tumor progression. The complexity of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma co-occurring with triple esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is illustrated in this case study, along with the efficacy of a combined treatment strategy.
