Abstract

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is a widely used minimally invasive approach for diagnostic biopsies of mediastinal masses. Although generally safe, thoracoscopic biopsies can occasionally be complicated by life-threatening events such as hemopericardium and cardiac tamponade. We report a case of a patient who developed a hemopericardium complicated by tamponade during thoracoscopic biopsy of a mediastinal mass, requiring surgical management.
