Abstract

57 Fe Mӧssbauer measurements were performed for MgCl 2 , MnCl 2 , FeCl 2 , CoCl 2 , NiCl 2 or CdCl 2 at temperatures of 77 K, 201 K and R. T. Additionally, for FeCl 2 , CoCl 2 and NiCl 2 , further measurements were performed at 473 K and 623 K. The observed spectra revealed the asymmetry of the quadrupole doublet caused by the Goldanskii-Karyagin effect, as expected based on the crystal structure. The asymmetry increased with increasing temperature. We obtained the asymmetry parameter A and then obtained the <u // 2 > - <u 2 > value for each sample at each temperature.
