Background Approximately one-third of the world’s population is infected by tuberculosis bacteria and is at risk of being infected by the tuberculosis disease. The aim is to investigate the effect of an educational program based on the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skill Model on medication adherence in Pulmonary Tuberculosis patients. Methods The quasi-experimental study examined 140 patients selected by simple randomization. Three educational sessions were held for the intervention group. Finally, the data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential tests run in the SPSS 20 software. Results The mean scores of IMB constructs were significantly higher in the intervention group after the intervention (p < 0.05), while this surge was not significant in the control group (p > 0.05). Likewise, the mean medication adherence score of the intervention group increased significantly in the post-intervention phase (p < 0.05), while the control group displayed no significant difference (p > 0.05). Besides, treatment adherence was significantly higher in the intervention than in the control group after the education (p < 0.05). Conclusion The findings emphasize the effectiveness of the educational intervention in improving treatment adherence among TB patients in the intervention group.
