Background: Heart Failure (HF) is a very progressive health problem with very high mortality and morbidity rates in developed and developing countries, including Indonesia. Prevention to overcome this is by carrying out self-care, which is very necessary for patients with HF to support their self-confidence in managing the disease. Purpose: This study aimed to identify the comparative effectiveness of video education with standard leaflet and booklet education in improving self-care in HF patients. Patients and methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test with a control group. The sample consisted of 38 respondents in the intervention group and 38 in the control group, taken using convenience sampling techniques. Self-care was measured using the valid and reliable SCHFI questionnaire. Data were analyzed using paired t-test, independent t-test, and simple linear regression test. Results: The intervention group showed better significance than the control group. The mean value of Self-care in the intervention group was 69.39, while the mean value in the control group was 60.03. The bivariate analysis obtained a p <.001 with a coefficient of determination of 0.377. These results indicate video education's influence on HF patients' self-care by 37.7%. Conclusion: This study indicates that video education improves self-care in HF patients. As for suggestions, it is hoped that video education will be information that changes behaviour for the better and will be an additional method of providing health information to heart failure patients. Considering the increasing trend of heart failure patients, video education will be a practical choice to be used with a wide reach.
