Green Synthesis and Assessment of Antibacterial and Antiobiofilm Activities of Silver Nanoparticles Using Carthumas tinctorius Extract

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized using Carthamus tinctorius flower extract exhibit significant biomedical potential, particularly for their antibacterial and antibiofilm properties. Various characterization techniques, including UV-visible spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, zeta potential, FTIR, and XRD, confirmed the successful biosynthesis of AgNPs with spherical shapes, sizes ranging from 20 to 60 nm. The UV-visible spectrum displayed a peak at approximately 417 nm, indicating AgNP formation.Invitro antimicrobial activity of biosynthesized AgNPs was demonstrated against Staphylococcus haemolyticus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Acinetobacter baumannii across different concentrations (100 to 6.25 µg/mL). Results showed concentration-dependent bacterial inhibition, with the highest efficacy observed at 100 µg/mL, especially against E. coli and A.baumannii (inhibition zones of 16.66 mm and 16.33 mm, respectively). The study highlights the potential application of AgNPs as bioactive agents in biotechnology and pharmacology.
