Abstract

Rapid urbanization and increasing reliance on fossil fuels pose complex environmental and social challenges, exacerbated by environmental degradation and climate change. In this context, photovoltaic energy emerges as a strategic alternative to promote sustainability and energy efficiency in urban areas, particularly through the development of solar neighborhoods. This study investigates the integration of solar energy into urban planning, focusing on its contribution to urban resilience and energy consumption optimization. Case studies of solar neighborhoods in different regions are analyzed, demonstrating how the implementation of photovoltaic systems in buildings can reduce urban vulnerability, provide clean electricity, and enhance cities' capacity to meet rising energy demands and climate change impacts. The methodology involves analyzing urban planning strategies that encourage the adoption of photovoltaic technologies, considering factors such as density, disaster resilience, and sustainability. The findings indicate that transitioning to solar neighborhoods requires collaboration among the public and private sectors and local communities, as well as technological innovation. The study concludes that the development of solar neighborhoods is essential for building a sustainable urban future, fostering greater resilience and adaptation to climate change in growing urban areas.
