Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of digital instructional strategies in science education, examining outcomes from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2022 in Singapore and the USA. With the growing importance of technology in education, understanding how digital pedagogies affect students' learning outcomes, particularly in science, is imperative for preparing learners for future challenges. This comparative analysis explores how different approaches to digital instruction impact students' scientific literacy and engagement, focusing on significant differences between the educational systems of the two countries.Employing a mixed-methods research design, this study combines quantitative data from PISA 2022 assessments and qualitative insights derived from interviews with educators and students. Key performance metrics assessed include student engagement levels, science literacy scores, and the types of digital instructional strategies employed in each country. The data reflects how effectively digital tools and resources are integrated into the science curricula.Initial findings suggest that Singaporean students outperform their American peers in terms of scientific literacy, driven in part by more systematic implementation of digital instructional strategies that emphasize collaborative learning and critical thinking. In contrast, while the USA has made substantial investments in educational technology, inconsistencies in pedagogical practices and varying levels of teacher training impact the effectiveness of digital instruction. The study concludes with recommendations for educators and policymakers aimed at improving digital instructional practices in science education. Emphasizing the need for comprehensive professional development, resource allocation, and systematic integration of technology in curricula, this research contributes vital insights into enhancing science education outcomes through effective digital instructional strategies, ultimately fostering a scientifically literate population.
