Abstract

We report a case of a patient, who had recently been hospitalized outside the United States and developed a difficult-to-treat Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) identified tandem Guiana extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (blaGES-19/20). We highlight the value of WGS and the challenges faced in managing infections with organisms displaying unexpected resistance mechanisms.
