Abstract

We report a case of a patient recently hospitalized outside the United States who developed Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection with difficult-to-treat resistance. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) identified tandem Guiana extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (blaGES-19/20). We highlight WGS value and the infection-control and pharmacy challenges of managing uncommon resistance in practice.
