Abstract

Monkeypox virus infection is a newly emerging viral infectious disease that has become the current public health threat. Formerly, monkeypox was a crucial zoonotic virus endemic limited to the central and west African regions, never been reported in Southeast Asia. Humans can be infected with the monkeypox virus by contact with infected humans and animals. However, the recent emergence of monkeypox worldwide, including in Thailand, is of significant interest and shall be surveillance. In addition, the recent evidence from the recent outbreaks worldwide demonstrates that infection can be transmitted by sexuality. The author reviewed and represented important information on this disease in this mini-review.

  1. Unfortunately this manuscript falls below the standard of work required for publication both in terms of content and how the manuscript is written and presented and therefore is no longer under consideration for publication in its current format.

  2. Comments to Author

This manuscript by Yodjan discusses monkeypox in general, with the pretence of focusing on circumstances in Thailand. The manuscript contains very basic information and lacks full descriptions and insight into the topic. Most of the information is readily available and more reader-friendly on government websites. I expected more implications about monkeypox in Thailand and very little has been dedicated to this topic, all with few details discussed. The author is also unable to connect the monkeypox cases in Thailand with any recommendations. Overall, this manuscript is of poor quality and below the standard for publication. I do not feel that this mini-review adds any novel information or evaluation. Some additional comments below. Many of the phrases are not common, which makes it difficult to understand the specific meaning and there are also cases when incorrect words are used. A recurring example of this is when the author states that MPXV may "be transmitted by sexuality". The assumption is that the author means sexual contact, but later states that MPXV can be transmitted by "sexuality or sexual intercourse". So, what is the author referring to when they use "sexuality"? Other examples are "essential zoonotic viral disease", "outbreak enlargement", and "critical transmission". Several other instances of awkward wording are present in the manuscript and thorough proofreading is recommended. The author concludes that the four cases in Thailand are a "warning for the potential situation of monkeypox infection in Southeast Asia". This needs much more explanation. What is the warning? Based on the information given for the specific cases the reader is left to think the warnings mean to not have relationships with foreigners, or to not go to entertainment venues or popular tourist destinations.
