Abstract

Analysis of variance, or ANOVA, is the statistical method for comparing two or more means. It consists of an omnibus test, assumption checks, and follow-up post hoc tests for three or more means. R is a free and open-source programming language and environment that consists of a base package and various add-on packages that extend its functionality. This paper serves as a tutorial for students and instructors of an applied statistics course using R. It will introduce readers to one-way ANOVA using base R, rstatix, DescTools, effectsize, and others. Visualization options such as DescTools and ggstatsplot are also discussed.
