Abstract

Prior research has documented the prevalence of replications in the published research of many social science sub-fields, but no study has yet examined comprehensively the rate of replications in the field of school psychology. Strategic replications can help validate accumulated knowledge from past findings and extend our learning to novel applications. In this study, we examined the entire publication history of the leading school psychology journals and calculated that 0.93% of articles were replications. Of these, 72% reported successful results, and 74% were conducted by at least one overlapping author from the original study. In contrast to previous research, no significant differences between authorship overlap and replication success rates were found, possibly due to the limited number of replications found in these journals.
