This white paper presents the Faculty Competency Framework (FCF), developed by the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Center at Qatar University to support faculty professional development. The framework is organized into two main tiers: core competencies, which enhances the performance of faculty across the domains of teaching, research, and community engagement; and peripheral competencies that enhance faculty performance across these domains of, digital fluency, interpersonal skills, leadership, continuous professional development, and ethics. The FCF also outlines four progressive levels of proficiency: Developing, Intermediate, Advanced, and Exemplary, to support ongoing faculty growth and provide a basis for consistent evaluation. Grounded in the institutional context of Qatar University, the framework is designed to align with strategic priorities while remaining adaptable to different disciplines. It offers a practical approach to identifying development needs, guiding professional learning, and promoting excellence in teaching and learning.
