Abstract

The potential for generative artificial intelligence to positively benefit creativity and education is significant and obvious. However, ample reasons exist for educators to be concerned about misuse and abuse of AI as students learn and create. Experts have noted several potential issues with AI use, and past human experiences with technological advances suggest that most of those issues will come to pass. In this essay, I propose a way to think about the role of generative AI that accepts the downsides while maximizing our opportunity to see real upsides.
