Abstract

This professional development (PD) session was delivered to middle and high school science teachers in the U.S. It can also be useful for other educators who want to enhance their AI literacy in classroom assessment. The session primarily focused on interacting with ChatGPT, a widely used generative AI tool. By learning how to design prompts and engage with ChatGPT, teachers gained transferable skills for communicating with other generative AI systems. The PD included classroom activities that allowed teachers to experiment, reflect, observe live demonstrations, and learn from shared experiences and strategies. The goal was to make the training practical and easy to follow. The session was structured around five key components: introduction, teacher use, student use, reflection, and discussion.
