The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has enabled the development of expressive digital avatars capable of real time interaction through speech, facial animation, and emotional cues. Such systems have gained increasing importance in education, where engagement, personalization, and human like interaction are critical. This paper presents a comparative study of two emerging approaches for interactive digital education, MangaMind and XAR (Extended Augmented Reality). XAR emphasizes immersive spatial interaction through augmented and mixed reality environments, enabling users to engage with educational content embedded in physical space. In contrast, MangaMind focuses on AI driven talking avatars that combine natural language understanding, speech synthesis, and synchronized facial animation to deliver emotionally expressive and conversational learning experiences. The study analyzes both systems across key dimensions including conversational intelligence, emotional realism, animation fidelity, interactivity, scalability, and learning impact. By examining their respective strengths and limitations, this work highlights how emotionally intelligent talking avatars and immersive XR environments address complementary aspects of human computer interaction. The findings suggest that while XAR excels in spatial immersion, MangaMind offers more adaptive and empathetic communication, indicating strong potential for hybrid educational frameworks that integrate both paradigms.
