Descriptive statistics and visualization are methods to summarize data. These methods include measures of central tendency, dispersion, histograms, frequency tables, and boxplots. R is a free and open-source statistical programming language. The R environment consists of the base package, as well as several add-on packages that replicate or extend its functionality. This tutorial introduces beginners to descriptive statistics and visualization using base R, psych, pastecs, DescTools, and others.
