New evidence on the commercial ventures of Genoese merchants in the Black Sea during the 15th centuryAbstractIn this paper, we provide an analysis of three lesser-known Genoese notarial deeds that we have also edited in the appendix of this study, which offer an insight into the Black Sea trade during the 1450s-1470s. Particular attention has been given to the study of the commercial terminology used in these notarial acts. The main point we sought to illustrate in our analysis is the gradual integration of the Genoese and Ottoman economies within the Pontic area, eventually leading to the near-complete absorption of the Genoese economy by the Ottoman one. Drawing from the unpublished sources that we have analysed, our main objective is to situate the merchants, the coins, and the exchanged goods within a larger social and economic context, so as to better grasp the commercial and monetary trends of the that age. Keywords: Genoa, notarial deeds, Black Sea, commerce, Ottoman Empire, Caffa, Moncastro, Moldavia.
