Abstract

The explosion of short-form video platforms have rapidly changed how mass media is consumed. This study analyzes how consuming short videos passively influences how media students in Pakistan verify information. A survey was sent to 150 students selected via a structured questionnaire. Chi-square analysis revealed there is a statistically significant link between the passive consumption of short videos and a lack of information verification. Although there was no connection between passive video consumption and the perceived learning of information or retention. These findings are concerning for the habits of passive digital media consumption and highlight the need for more in depth studies to incorporate electronic media for assessments of a cognitive nature.
