Social media has become an important phenomenon in the digital era, providing a platform for social interaction without boundaries of time and space. Its two main definitions highlight its role as a new means of communication and as an internet-based application. This study uses qualitative research methods with secondary data sources from literature studies. The aim is to understand the role of social media in shaping public opinion and its impact in social and political contexts. Data was collected through content analysis from various sources, including academic journals, books, and media articles. The research results show that social media plays an important role in disseminating historical information and mobilizing political support and social movements. However, challenges such as filter bubbles and echo chambers also influence public perception of certain issues. In conclusion, self-education about the wise use of social media is crucial in dealing with its complex impacts in modern society.
