Abstract

The current study conducted an online scenario experiment to examine sex differences in the tendency to avoid eating insects. Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups and, in the scenario, shared an insect they had never eaten before with either an opposite-sex or same-sex partner. Participants then chose the percentage of the insect they would eat, knowing that the remainder would be eaten by their partner. There were two predictions: 1) women would choose a lower percentage of insects to eat compared to men; and 2) when the partner was of the opposite sex, men would choose a higher percentage of insects to eat compared to women, and both predictions were supported.
