The enterprise of developing a common model of the mindaims to create a foundational architecture for rational behaviorin humans. Philosopher Immanuel Kant attempted somethingsimilar in 1781. The principles laid out by Kant for pursuingthis goal can shed important light on the common modelproject. Unfortunately, Kant’s program has become hopelesslymired in philosophical hair-splitting. In this paper, we first useKant’s approach to isolate the founding conditions ofrationality in humans. We then establish the parallels betweenKant’s mechanics and the operations in currently used modelsof cognitive architecture. Finally, we argue that Kant’sphilosophy can pave the way for general intelligence and showhow they can be actualized in a memory system using highdimensional vectors to achieve specific cognitive abilities.
