Concerns surrounding the replicability, reproducibility, and transparency of academic research have ushered in a new set of practices and behaviours under the broad umbrella of ‘open science’. In this chapter, we outline how lessons from open science can be embedded into student teaching and learning, offering practical recommendations for lectures, seminars, projects, and assessment. We synthesise the existing literature to suggest that, beyond simply improving research, the integration of open science may also lead to positive student outcomes, such as increased scientific literacy, engagement, conduct, and attitudes. In doing so, we demonstrate that by learning the principles of open science, students develop valuable skills that align with modern research demands, social responsibility, and ethical standards across disciplines – skills that are increasingly sought after by graduate employers.
