Despite the widespread adoption of moderation tools, such as reporting and banning, these reactive approaches fail to address the underlying causes of toxic behavior or foster long-term behavioral change.This whitepaper reviews the historical, psychological, and societal factors that contribute to toxicity in gaming environments, tracing the industry's growth and the emergence of harmful behaviors within digital communities.
