Abstract

We examined whether opinions about the legal age of sexual consent are associ-ated with cognitive ability in a sample of U.S. college students (N =200) recruited onProlific. Self-reported SAT/ACT scores were converted to IQ equivalents. Studentswho believed the age of consent should be under 18 (n≤17 = 91) scored higher thanthose who believed it should be 18 or older. The finding suggests that stricter consentattitudes are not associated with higher estimated IQ in this cohort. Limitations andimplications are discussed
