Building on the long and successful tradition of incorporating games (e.g., chess or Mastermind) into the psychological assessment of cognitive ability, this registered report focuses on Wordle—one of the most popular online word games. We will examine (1) the psychometric properties of the game (e.g., dimensionality, reliability), (2) the nomological network of Wordle proficiency including vocabulary, verbal fluency, and reasoning at the latent level, (3) correlations with socio-demographic (age, education), reading habits, game experience, and strategy efficiency, and (4) the game’s potential for rational test construction through an analysis of the linguistic determinants of Wordle item difficulty.
