Reviews Jonathan Haidt's (2024) 'The anxious generation: How the great rewiringof childhood is causing an epidemic of mental illness’. Haidt traces psychological and behavioral problems prevalent in Gen Z to the disappearance of free play and the emergence of social media as propagated through smartphones. He surveys possibilities for remediation both at the local and the societal level. The review concludes that Haidt's exposition is timely and professionally sound.
