Abstract

People often listen to others based on how they speak rather than what they say, focusing on the invisible language hidden within speech—paralanguage. This study explored the association of paralanguage with big five personality traits in a voice analysis platform (Layered Voice Analysis-i). For this purpose, a customised big five personality structured interview was conducted in a smart room on 113 individuals and voice segments were correlated with big five personality. The study shown that 7 paralingual voice parameters out of 18 measured have the significant relationship between big five personality traits. The study also uncovered a positive correlation between agreeableness and one of the paralingual emotional profiles known as Energetic-Emotional (EN-EM), suggesting characteristics aligned with being a 'people person’. This study shows the possibility and potential of conducting personality research through paralanguage in AI Paradigm.
